Arizona

I haven’t spent a great deal of time in Arizona. I remember it as very beautiful, dry, and having the fortune of a location near to many of our country’s most spectacular parks. But I’d like to note my new favorite aspect of Arizona, one that I feel sets it apart from all of the other states of the union. In Arizona, they do not follow the family-torture device that is Daylight Savings Time.

Sounds like heaven. Or at least intelligent!

Henna Belly!!!

Super-talented Mary (aka: the gifted woman who guided me through sewing the curtains on the front door) painted henna on my belly during our weekly unicycle potluck dinner Sunday night. Awesome fun!

Vote Vote Vote!

Any NOLA readers out there? Here’s some information we’ve found useful:

Early voting for the primary (April 22nd) is April 10-13 and April 15th at 1300 Perdido Street (City Hall), room 1W23. All registered voters can vote early at this location.

The deadline for absentee ballots for the May 20th general election is April 19th. The necessary forms are available from the Louisiana Secretary of State and must be mailed to the address on the form.

And finally, the League of Women Voters has a candidate guide to help us in this messy, messy — but very interesting — election. (One of the many ways that living in NOLA right now is like living in a ‘developing’ setting is this election… a billion candidates and the only new paint and advertisement in the city are their fabulous ads.)

Vote vote vote!

PS: I’m lovin’ Virginia Boulet.

He’s got those dirty diaper blues

During our quick stay in Mobile for Friday’s prenatal, Granna and PapPap got in lots of quality Will time… making his day by giving him a ” ‘prize” (aka: surprise) of a harmonica!

We are not kidding when we say he is a seriously impressive 2-year old harmonica player. We figure if we can teach him “When the Saints Go Marching In,” a few days of working it in the Quarter will cover his college tutition.

No, really, this IS lookin’ good!

It gives telling insight into the state of our domestic challenges when I say that this photo is something to which we can be proud! It documents *huge* improvements and many, many weeks of hard labor.

Friday’s Prenatal

Stats: Fabulous everything; negative on antibodies (I’m Rh negative), opted to skip rhogam; weight same as last appointment 2 weeks ago.

Position: Kate is head down, although she still has decent wiggle room to spin should she choose to totally freak her mother out. She seems to prefer the right side, which means that my belly is somewhat poofed out on one side on close inspection.

Belly: I feel slight strain and burning on my skin on the top right when she pushes outward and the sensation is interesting.

Birth preparation: Vicki (our midwife extraordinaire) gave instructions for what to start to prepare. Checked out *beautiful* birthing room with awesome birthing tub (this could be a water birth!), birthing balls, chairs, great queen-size bed, and just about every home comfort. Met with a Bradley instructor to brush up on our training. Watched a few birth tapes (squatting and water birth).

Overall feeling: Getting excited and nervous… so much to do in what could be so little time!
