Cold Spaghetti

Our sewer cleanout. It is a terra cotta pipe and over the years, was very badly cracked and no longer was properly sealed. (All jokes aside, this means the release of dangerous and noxious fumes and who knows what else.) The circle to the top left is the seal that sits on top of the pipe. Paul re-enforced the pipe drain by cutting an old orange work bucket and placing it around the pipe. Then, he poured concrete around the pipe and, using one of my old flower pots, created a new opening. Once the set was dry, he pulled out the flower pot and presto! A new pipe opening. Then, he put the top cover back on, the opening to which now fits perfectly on the orange bucket (you can see the opening and seal to the left.) Great job, Paul!

Paul and I celebrated our FIFTH wedding anniversary yesterday! We couldn’t get a babysitter, so we treated ourselves to take-out from August Moon (a local place we hadn’t tried yet) and were pleasantly surprised to find it had an extensive Vietnamese/Chinese vegetarian selection (with lots of tofu options, yeah!) Very ordinary, very fun family night.

Hats off to five years of wedded bliss! 🙂

A post from Randy sparked my interest to faceanalysis.com. It found Randy (who is of German and Welsh decent) to be a mix of Japanese and Korean. What would it find Will, I wondered?

It found Will 100% Chinese.

I promise, I gave birth to this child. So what would it find me?
47% Korean/Japanese, and 53% Chinese.

So much for accuracy! And really, the whole thing is a tad offensive. Anyway.

Last Saturday, our part of Magazine Street had a “Shop and Sip” event with the usual New Orleans fare: live music, street performers, balloons, food, and wine. We went to check it out and signed Will up for the “Whole Kids Club.” Now, when we visit Whole Foods (something we do daily since we live about 50 feet away), Will shows his card and gets a free snack! In what I thought was a moment of weakness, I also signed myself up for the “Whole Families” email listserv. I’m usually not one to put my email address on anything, but now I’m so happy I did. The emails are great and have put me in touch with my new point of culinary inspiration: Whole Foods Recipes!

Paul, Will and I enjoyed the privilege of Aubudon Institute Membership and went to the members event, ZOObilation!, at Audubon Zoo. There were live bands everywhere, “fest” foods stands, animal exhibits, inflatibles (Will’s still too young), and feedings. We arrived when it opened (at 4:30) and stayed for a little over an hour (big lighting, thunder, and black clouds rolled in, plus, we had an errand to run in Harrahan.) It was great fun!

Watching the orangutans watch us. Today, they had lettuce to munch on while checking us out. In the past, they’ve had Starbucks cups (don’t know if they ever were full, but we enjoyed watching them use the cups as if drinking from them) and plush baby dolls.
