Our companion tour boat through one of the many beautiful arches that abound in these islands. Note the birds everywhere! Oh — and yes, direct hits from those birds are not unheard of. In fact, I took one — a direct hit to the head. Another guy on the boat took one as well, but I was the first. I’ve heard it is a sign of good luck? Posted by Picasa

How close did we get? Well, maybe TOO close. (Especially when you consider the totally obnoxious kid who was blowing his emergency life-vest whistle at the animals.) Posted by Picasa

Sea lions all around us… on the land, in the sea! Posted by Picasa

How many sea lions did we see? Multiply this picture by _a very big number_. Oh, and sea lions are LOUD. You hear them long before you see them appear through the fog. It’s cooler than any picture or description can render. Posted by Picasa

Pelicans, pelicans everywhere! At some point early in the trip when we first saw pelicans, I told Will that me and his Uncle Skip were nick-named “Pelicans” by our grandparents. A good twenty minutes later when we came by a big group of pelicans, Will pointed at them and shouted “Mommy!” “Yes” I said, “Mommy and Uncle Skip were called ‘Pelicans.'” Will then started to point at them and call “Skip!” He *really* made us laugh when, after a few moments of shouting out “Skip!” he called out “Emily!” So apparently, all three of us are now pelicans in his eyes! Posted by Picasa
