Dispersants<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 Noun<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Chemicals used to break up oil in the sea.\u00c2\u00a0 Use stems from catastrophic events, which occur when big business decides personal profit is more important than public safety.\u00c2\u00a0 Exact chemical compositions are considered “trade secrets” to minimize the ability of scientists (and others) to assess the impact on health and the environment.<\/p>\n

DIBELS test<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 Noun; that thing where capitals imply words that describe the test<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 A test done in English that requires each student to spend 15 minutes alone with the teacher, during which time parents are asked to sub.\u00c2\u00a0 Test has significance somewhere and is likely related to some requirement.\u00c2\u00a0 Jazz Fest (see entry, below) may impair parents’ ability to process significance of testing.\u00c2\u00a0 Or else, the experience of subbing for a class of 1st graders may destroy the brain cells holding that particular set of information.<\/p>\n

Jazz Fest<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 Proper Noun<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 AKA: Fess.\u00c2\u00a0 Like most things about New Orleans, highly misunderstood.\u00c2\u00a0 Seven days over two weeks, hundreds of musicians, artists, and food vendors.\u00c2\u00a0 This is not your Northern California “Jazz Festival” where erudite folk sit around and sip wine from fancy glasses while listening to the gentle smoothness of elevator music.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s more like Woodstock sobered up just enough to put on pants and then hooked up with a Louisiana girl who knows how to cook.<\/p>\n

Pink tea.<\/strong> Noun<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 AKA: Crystal Light.\u00c2\u00a0 Made for child’s birthday play-date\/tea party.\u00c2\u00a0 Easy to clean up when spilled on crinoline and other costume material.\u00c2\u00a0 Served with petit fours and fruit salad.<\/p>\n
