{"id":4633,"date":"2009-05-04T20:35:11","date_gmt":"2009-05-05T03:35:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/?p=4633"},"modified":"2009-05-04T20:36:34","modified_gmt":"2009-05-05T03:36:34","slug":"eggsinhidin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/2009\/05\/04\/eggsinhidin\/","title":{"rendered":"Eggs in Hiding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About two weeks ago, my friend Magpie posted a recipe for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.magpiemusing.com\/2009\/04\/eggs-in-hiding.html\">Eggs in Hiding<\/a>,&#8221; which she had come across while nostalgically flipping through old cookbooks.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>EGGS IN HIDING<\/p>\n<p>1 T. butter<br \/>\n1 can condensed tomato soup<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd pound American cheese, diced<br \/>\n6 hard-cooked eggs<br \/>\n1 cup cereal flakes, crushed<\/p>\n<p>Heat butter and soup in top of double boiler. Add cheese and cook until melted, stirring constantly. Arrange halves of hard-cooked eggs (cut lengthwise) in buttered baking dish. Pour cheese mixture over eggs. Sprinkle with cereal flakes. Brown under broiler. Serves 6.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I know.\u00c2\u00a0 Awesome right?<\/p>\n<p>Mag challenged folks to make it.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magpiemusing.com\/2009\/05\/eggs-found-and-prize.html\">A few jumped to the challenge in an instant<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Me, well, fast is relative during Jazz Fest season but I managed to think ahead and make preparations over the weekend.\u00c2\u00a0 Tonight&#8217;s experiment almost failed between the kids stealing cheese while I&#8217;m trying to peel eggs, Kate&#8217;s diaper explosion and necessary immediate shower, Will coming in covered in mud, and Paul coming in covered in mud AND insulation&#8230; all while I&#8217;m suppose to be stirring continuously and\/or watching a broiler.\u00c2\u00a0 But, I pulled it off!<\/p>\n<p>I even took pictures.\u00c2\u00a0 (These were taken with one of the point-and-shoot cameras from the Photovoice project &#8212; I&#8217;m trying to get more familiar with them and the more I use it, the more fantastic a camera I think this is for the price.\u00c2\u00a0 But I digress.)<\/p>\n<p>The recipe calls for American, but I used a domestic Cheddar (sounds fancy, huh?)\u00c2\u00a0 Also, I used two cans of tomato soup.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4635\" title=\"egg-11\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-11.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-11-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t want leftovers, so I only used 4 eggs.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4638\" title=\"egg-4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-4.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the soup and cereal on top.\u00c2\u00a0 Will ate the box of corn flakes before I had a chance to make it, so we actually had to go and buy a second box for the recipe.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4639\" title=\"egg-6\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-6.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/egg-6-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s under the broiler now.\u00c2\u00a0 Considering all the running around I did while it was cooking in there, I was surprised it didn&#8217;t burn.\u00c2\u00a0 Also, the eggs were made Saturday and had been in the fridge since then &#8212;
