hours to move things along on the house.\u00c2\u00a0 Each morning, he starts work at 6am and works for several hours on the start-up.\u00c2\u00a0 Then around lunchtime, he moves on to working on the house.<\/p>\n<p>Today we worked to finish many of the tasks in Will&#8217;s Room.<\/p>\n<p>This included finishing the painting.<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, &#8220;painting&#8221; one of our rooms means sanding, washing, fixing, filling, priming, and perhaps doing all of those things two or more times before moving on to actual paint.\u00c2\u00a0 Then 1-2 coats of primer on the oil surface and at least 2 coats of paint on the walls and 2-3 on the trim.\u00c2\u00a0 Alllll the way up the 12 foot walls and on the ceiling.\u00c2\u00a0 Because of the humidity near the ceiling, it takes hours for paint to dry.\u00c2\u00a0 So it took the last three days to finish painting walls and trim.<\/p>\n<p><center><a><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4291\" title=\"img_5395\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5395.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5395.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5395-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/center><a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then Paul moved into baseboards.\u00c2\u00a0 Repairing open sections and installing toe molding.\u00c2\u00a0 Delicate cuts make it all fit&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><center><a><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4292\" title=\"img_5407\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5407.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5407.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5407-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/center><a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notice that our family room is the sawdust catcher.\u00c2\u00a0 We start to get nervous if at least one room in the house doesn&#8217;t have sawdust on the floor&#8230; although it felt huge after the paint was up.<\/p>\n<p><center><a><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4296\" title=\"img_5479\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5479.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5479.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5479-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/center><a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The lights went in over 4 years ago.\u00c2\u00a0 Trim kits went in today.<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t claim to be speedy.<\/p>\n<p><center><a><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4297\" title=\"img_5495\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5495.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5495.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5495-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/center><a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ceiling view from the door to the hallway.\u00c2\u00a0 It took Paul a lot of research, trial, and error to figure out how to install standard lights and trim kits in old ceilings, where beams are not spaced the same as modern construction.\u00c2\u00a0 He actually fashioned special cutting tools and ways of working through the layers of lathe in order to place the lights where we wanted them in the ceiling and have them properly aligned and spaced.<\/p>\n<p>When he was still trying to figure out the particulars, he actually contacted This Old House with specific questions about recessed lights in these types of ceilings.\u00c2\u00a0 They never responded.<\/p>\n<p>I figure it&#8217;s &#8217;cause Bob Villa has nothin&#8217; on Paul.<\/p>\n<p><center><a><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4298\" title=\"img_5503\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5503.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5503.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5503-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/center><a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>See the beige oil paint around the door?\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re still not sure what to do with the doors.\u00c2\u00a0 Dip them and stain them?\u00c2\u00a0 Paint the trim?\u00c2\u00a0 Paint everything white?<\/p>\n<p>We want to have them repaired and have working hardware (none of our doors actually close) and figure we should go ahead and dip them, too, since it&#8217;s usually part of the process.\u00c2\u00a0 And it seems a shame to paint them after the beautiful cypress is exposed.\u00c2\u00a0 But there is no way we&#8217;re stripping the doorways, so would it be strange to just have the doors be natural wood?<\/p>\n<p>Trivial details.<\/p>\n<p><center><a><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4299\" title=\"img_5507\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5507.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5507.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5507-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/center><a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After scraping paint off the window, cleaning the floor, and hanging the curtains, we set up Will&#8217;s bed.\u00c2\u00a0 The one that has been sitting in our front room in pieces since last September &#8212; the kids have had to climb on and around it piled behind our couch for almost a year.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;d have jacked it up on cinder blocks, but that&#8217;s how we store our cars in the front yard.<\/p>\n<p><center><a><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4300\" title=\"img_5529\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5529.jpg 427w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/img_5529-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/center><a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The bed!<\/p>\n<p>Will currently sleeps in a full-size bed, so we have a mattress for the bottom bunk.\u00c2\u00a0 We realized that we wouldn&#8217;t be using a box spring&#8230; what do we do with a box spring?\u00c2\u00a0 Paul wants to put some carpeted plywood above to make a play space on top.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m thinking we&#8217;ll wait a little longer before anyone goes up&#8230;
