{"id":400,"date":"2005-02-08T18:14:00","date_gmt":"2005-02-09T01:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/2005\/02\/08\/mardi-gras-the-recap\/"},"modified":"2005-02-08T18:14:00","modified_gmt":"2005-02-09T01:14:00","slug":"mardi-gras-the-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/2005\/02\/08\/mardi-gras-the-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Mardi Gras&#8230; the recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve survived our first Mardi Gras!<\/p>\n<p>Lessons learned:<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Floats do not throw moon pies (and at least in Uptown, no underwear is thrown either).<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Getting beads ONLY involves showing body parts on Bourbon Street and virtually always involves people who do not live in New Orleans.<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; We really like the French Quarter and can&#8217;t wait until AFTER Mardi Gras to better explore it.<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; It&#8217;s tough to party all week.  By Mardi Gras Day (Fat Tuesday) we are exhausted.<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; No matter how many beads you have on your person, in your bags, or at home, you always will happily and eagerly catch more.<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Clear out FAST after the parade&#8230; the street cleaners are merciless.<\/p>\n<p>And our number one lesson&#8230; we live in a WONDERFUL city!!!<\/p>\n<p>Some highlights:<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Having fun with visiting friends (Wyatt, Eli, Bela, Deepak, and Madhu)<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Sharing Thoth with our neighborhood<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Meeting great people!!  Including &#8220;Queen of Thoth 1972&#8221; at the Bacchus parade (full of information and connections), a great family originally from Jaipur, India, who teach the vegetarian Indian cooking class at the JCC, and lots of other cool folks!<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Dancing with Will to all the GREAT marching bands<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Changing Will&#8217;s diaper (twice) at the corner of St. Charles and Napolean during the Rex parade on Fat Tuesday<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Catching throws signaled out just for you from the floats!<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8211; Sharing throws with the kids running around and watching them get so excited<br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve survived our first Mardi Gras!
