We kicked off Mardi Gras this afternoon with our first parade of the season: Krewe of Pontchartrain<\/a>!<\/p>\n

The kids costume-d up a bit.<\/p>\n

I’m sorry.\u00c2\u00a0 I should have warned you of the cuteness.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s almost too much.<\/p>\n

Consider yourself warned.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

Just one more.\u00c2\u00a0 ’cause it’s all about the boots.<\/p>\n

Kate refuses to sit in the ladder.\u00c2\u00a0 I vaguely remember Will pulling a similar stunt when he was her age… a certain incident involving him freaking out and jumping head first into the crowd below<\/span> deciding to climb off of the ladder in the middle of a night parade and aging me 10 years in 2 short seconds.\u00c2\u00a0 Thankfully, we thought ahead this year, and invested in a step stool.\u00c2\u00a0 It rocks.<\/p>\n

Here’s the King, poor guy.\u00c2\u00a0 He completely won my heart.\u00c2\u00a0 Who cares if I lose the ‘stache in the first two blocks of the 2 mile parade?\u00c2\u00a0 I AM WAVING, Dammit! <\/em><\/p>\n

One of the first marching bands was here from Anapolis — the boat school kids — representing the U.S. Naval Academy.\u00c2\u00a0 (My Dad is also a boat school alum.)<\/p>\n

They ALL had these looks of disappointment on their faces.\u00c2\u00a0 Look at the kid with the camera.\u00c2\u00a0 I think he was expecting a lot more boobies.\u00c2\u00a0 Sorry, Charlie.<\/p>\n

Uh, well, maybe not Charlie.<\/p>\n

You know what I mean.<\/p>\n

Eventually, the riding floats came along, each with a “name that love song” theme.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

Lots of red beads today.\u00c2\u00a0 With it being Valentine’s and all.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

Hey, that’s Ben!\u00c2\u00a0 Whoo-hoo for Panorama Jazz Band<\/a>!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

The song for the float below is “I Just Called to Say I Love You.”\u00c2\u00a0 I totally rocked the Song-Naming Game.<\/p>\n

It wouldn’t be a Mardi Gras parade without kids playing ball.\u00c2\u00a0 Whoa, Dad.\u00c2\u00a0 That’s a little long, doncha think?\u00c2\u00a0 No more Turbo Dog for you.<\/p>\n

Kate is practicing her “Hey Mister” line.<\/p>\n

If you’re new to this whole Mardi Gras thing, you may be asking: how does this throw thing work, anyway?\u00c2\u00a0 Well, first, a rider see you.<\/p>\n

You give him a look, or thumbs up, to show that you are ready.\u00c2\u00a0 Even if you’re holding a camera.<\/p>\n

Uh-ho!\u00c2\u00a0 Here it comes!\u00c2\u00a0 Get ready to catch…<\/p>\n

Which means PUT DOWN THE CAMERA!<\/p>\n

For the record, I caught it.\u00c2\u00a0 The only one I missed this afternoon, Paul caught over my hand.\u00c2\u00a0 Let’s hope that keeps up a bit more this season.\u00c2\u00a0 (Knock on wood.)<\/p>\n

Just in case this whole Mardi Gras thing doesn’t look fun enough yet, I give you PINK SLIP.\u00c2\u00a0 I particularly like how they are singing for us in front of the prayer sign.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a pre-lenten festival, after all.<\/p>\n
