{"id":3116,"date":"2008-12-04T21:06:13","date_gmt":"2008-12-05T04:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/?p=3116"},"modified":"2008-12-05T13:32:28","modified_gmt":"2008-12-05T20:32:28","slug":"jekyl-and-hyde-youve-met-your-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/2008\/12\/04\/jekyl-and-hyde-youve-met-your-match\/","title":{"rendered":"Jekyll and Hyde, you&#8217;ve met your match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s been a lot of moaning over here lately regarding my first born.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s been well-deserved moaning.\u00c2\u00a0 Over more than excessive amounts of whining.\u00c2\u00a0 More than general not-listening.\u00c2\u00a0 More than forgetting to be nice.\u00c2\u00a0 More than things that make my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/2007\/04\/11\/what-a-conniption-fit-feels-like\/\">head actually lift off of my shoulders<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 The sort of stuff that makes me pause and look around for the hidden camera, because it&#8217;s way more than conniption causing&#8230; it makes me sound like my Mother.*<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3117\" title=\"will\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/will.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"752\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/will.jpg 1020w, http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/will-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then yesterday evening, the Universe smiled down upon me and granted me the greatest wish, one that every parent longs to receive.\u00c2\u00a0 The one where we learn that other children are possessed by the same demons as your own.<\/p>\n<p>A saw a friend whose child also attends an immersion school and she lamented on how hard the first few months were&#8230; how tired and cranky and difficult and unpleasant her child was for those first few months&#8230; AND HOW THE SCHOOL TOLD THEM THAT WOULD HAPPEN.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, I understand it must have been an unpleasant back-to-school note: &#8220;Dear Parents, be warned that your child&#8217;s behavior over the next few months will turn you into an alcoholic.\u00c2\u00a0 In November, we will start an evening AA group with free babysitting to help you get past this hurdle and safely into the rest of the school year.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Still, it&#8217;s a note that would have helped us tremendously as I contemplated how old a kid has to be before Boarding School.\u00c2\u00a0 At least I know now and can relish in the relief that my kid is not in need of exorcism, he is simply adjusting to a big transition.\u00c2\u00a0 For the record: acting the angel all day long, collecting girlfriends left and right covering 3 grade levels, and excelling everywhere &#8212;
