{"id":2086,"date":"2007-10-16T19:51:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-17T02:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/2007\/10\/16\/painting-crackers\/"},"modified":"2007-10-16T19:51:00","modified_gmt":"2007-10-17T02:51:00","slug":"painting-crackers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.coldspaghetti.org\/blog\/2007\/10\/16\/painting-crackers\/","title":{"rendered":"Painting Crackers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few days before Will was born, I finished a painting that now hangs in the kids&#8217; room above Kate&#8217;s crib.<br \/><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/bp3.blogger.com\/_NeoZjZL4Y_c\/RxV4xCjMAQI\/AAAAAAAACxE\/OI0Gus30wjI\/s1600-h\/IMG_5432.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/bp3.blogger.com\/_NeoZjZL4Y_c\/RxV4xCjMAQI\/AAAAAAAACxE\/OI0Gus30wjI\/s400\/IMG_5432.JPG\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122132935097188610\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>I was really into making &#8220;birth art&#8221; during my first pregnancy and this painting was suppose to be a series of two pieces &#8212; the second one never got started because Will came early &#8212; inspired a bit by <a style=\"font-style: italic;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Piet%C3%A0_%28Michelangelo%29\">Pieta<\/a>-ish motherly love and based on the work of the whimsical artist, <a href=\"http:\/\/nancythomas.com\/cart\/cover.html\">Nancy Thomas<\/a>.  (Whom I never should have googled to find a weblink.  Oye!  Those plaques!  So great!)<br \/><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/bp2.blogger.com\/_NeoZjZL4Y_c\/RxV4xyjMARI\/AAAAAAAACxM\/YeRDkpkXLdo\/s1600-h\/IMG_5435.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/bp2.blogger.com\/_NeoZjZL4Y_c\/RxV4xyjMARI\/AAAAAAAACxM\/YeRDkpkXLdo\/s400\/IMG_5435.JPG\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122132947982090514\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>This piece is still my most favorite painting.  When I look at it, I think of how I felt painting it&#8230; I remember my picturing myself holding my little baby and felt great anticipation for how that moment would feel.  In short, it is a very sentimental and important thing to me.<\/p>\n<p>So you can imagine how I felt when Will told me that Kate calls the painting &#8220;MaMa.&#8221;  Sure enough, she toddles back, points up her little finger and says &#8220;MaMa&#8221; right to the painting.<\/p>\n<p>It is important that she induces these moments of unbelievable, unimaginable heart-swelling joy.  Particularly because there are other moments, like when Mommy has to do something important.  Like blink.  And <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">this <\/span>happens:<br \/><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_NeoZjZL4Y_c\/RxV-FijMATI\/AAAAAAAACxc\/Pi48xTLQPAk\/s1600-h\/IMG_5445.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_NeoZjZL4Y_c\/RxV-FijMATI\/AAAAAAAACxc\/Pi48xTLQPAk\/s400\/IMG_5445.JPG\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122138784842645810\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Do you see the mini-rice cakes &#8212; each with one bite out of them &#8212; spread all over the floor?  The water can?  It&#8217;s out there as a crushing device.
