The repair cost to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/reviews\/canoneos300d\/\">300D<\/a> is high enough that it makes sense to replace it.  So, we&#8217;re going to go for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/news\/0608\/06082416canoneos400drebelxti.asp\">400D<\/a> XTi (body only).  We&#8217;ll be looking to purchase after the 19th of the month.  If anyone has insider tips on coupons or specials, please pass them on! <\/p>\n<p>My Dad bought a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.photozone.de\/8Reviews\/lenses\/canon_24_28\/index.htm\">basic wide-angle lens<\/a> for the boys&#8217; upcoming trip <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/grca\/\">into the hole<\/a> (they leave in a week).  I&#8217;ve been playing with the lens all weekend on his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/reviews\/canoneos350d\/\">XT<\/a>.  With the 1.6x crop, the 24mm works out to about 38mm or so&#8230; and having that much more has been fun (usually I shoot everything with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-digital-picture.com\/Reviews\/Canon-EF-50mm-f-1.4-USM-Lens-Review.aspx\">the 50mm lens<\/a> Paul gave me for Christmas, which is fabulous).  It gets soft as it gets wide open &#8212; I realized it more than ever in playing with this other lens.  Although I truly believe that equipment does not make a photographer and all that is really required for anyone to be a talented photographic artist is one lens&#8230; the fun of playing with different equipment is very addictive.  At some point I would like to consider another lens.  But before all that, I think it&#8217;s time to go back to Mac.
