(Or at the other end of the spectrum, and blowing it way out of proportion.) If, as is suspected, this strain comes back around with a vengeance in the fall, I'm afraid the public health community will be accused of crying wolf and people will not heed our cautions. (The company I work for has shut down for a total of 3 weeks so far this year, meaning no one has any vacation time left.) When you start saying things like "sending kids to school puts the community at risk," that sounds so absurd to modern ears; it sounds like a sci fi flick. And that makes people feel panicky.
