I've been meaning to come and add this to the list since I found out about it. There's a new place we've been to for a couple of birthday parties: Bookoo Bounce (http://www.bookoobounce.com/)
It's in Harahan, behind the Palace Theatre. It's got a variety of inflatables in it, for all ages, divided into two sections. Your party spends 40 minutes in each section, then heads to a party room for pizza, cake, and ice cream. I think you can also bring some food, just based on the fact that the two parties we went to had different snacks for the grownups. It's not dissimilar from the Monkey Room, except that everything is inflatable, and the climbing and sliding and jumping is split up into more stations.

Hey Holly,

We did the Monkey Room this year, only because Sydney begged for it after Alex's party. Otherwise we would have stuck to cake and games in the back yard. If you get overwhelmed by the options, PLEASE feel free to use our yard. It's pretty big (by NOLA standards) and there are no sharp objects sticking out of anything. Seriously, I mean it.

Jodie: thanks -- if you were in NOLA, we'd totally take you up on the yard offer and pay for a cleaning service to come in afterwards. :-) There is bowling here -- really awesome bowling at the Rock-n-Bowl (rocknbowl.com). BUT, it's for ages 7 and up only for parties.

Shokufeh: I think we are going to go with the milestone celebrations. That is a great idea.

Allen: Believe me, if we could do a small cake and paper cup thing, we would. Hopefully we'll have a backyard by the spring and do something small for Kate... she has yet to have any sort of birthday with her friends.

Wow. It all seems excessive to me. What happened to a few kids playing together with cake and conical paperboard caps?

Excessive, but fun.

Looks like there are a lot of neat options.

What a great service you've provided here, Holly. Thanks!
One more comment on the overwhelmingness of birthdays - my sister-in-law has three kids, and early on she and her husband laid down the rule of big birthday parties only on certain years. I don't remember the exact deal, but basically when each girl turns 5 and 10, maybe another one or two birthdays. In the in-between years, they have parties with family and maybe a slumber party with a few friends. But no clowns or pottery or jumpers are involved.
I like your bring your own bike idea.

Wow. And I thought we had it rough here with our Option A (bowling - one alley) and Option B (gymnastics center in the middle of nowhere) choice. Did you look into bowling? What about a neighborhood playground? If I lived in Nola, I'd offer you my yard.
